Iran's Paranoid Purge: Regime Cracks Down on Citizens

Iranian authorities have detained dozens of individuals accused of espionage for Israel, in what appears to be a frantic effort to choke off information flows that expose the regime’s military and economic weaknesses.

State-controlled media report over 20 arrests in West Azerbaijan province alone, with suspects allegedly sharing coordinates of security installations, military sites, economic infrastructure, universities, and research facilities. Similar operations targeted networks in Mazandaran, Khorasan Razavi, and Khuzestan provinces, where a three-person cell was labeled “terrorist” for purported armed actions against government targets.

These sweeping arrests, frequently announced through IRGC-affiliated outlets such as Fars and Tasnim, often rest on vague or fabricated charges designed to intimidate ordinary citizens who might communicate accurate details, sometimes simply through open Persian-language social media channels, as Western reporting has indicated.

In Iran’s bloated, centrally controlled system, far exceeding any legitimate state role in security, justice collapses under the weight of paranoia and repression.
